Borlooti Beans, also known as cranberry beans are medium to large tan or hazelnut-coloured bean splashed or streaked with red, magenta or black. Borlotti beans are looks similar to the pinto bean, but they are larger and have big maroon specks on a creamy white background, however after cooking, the specks vanish and the beans take on a more even, darker color. These borlotti beans are 100% Australian have no added preservatives and are non-GMO.
Some Tips to Use:
Borlotti beans should be pre-soaked in cold water for at least 5 hours or overnight in a large bowl to let them get double in size. Drain and rinse several times. This removes the naturally occurring Lectin and Saponin found in many pulses, which can impede digestion.
You can cook the pre-soaked beans by draining and placing beans in a pot of cold water and boiling for 30 minutes or until tender.
As a general note, DO NOT add salt while cooking any type of beans, as this can make their outer skins tough.
Cooked beans are great in your choice of salads, veggie burgers. Also, It can be used for making a delicious and healthy dip. Smashed beans are great in dips mix with sumac spice, chilli, garlic and olive oil.
